2019 Road Tax Changes

Once upon a tme road tax was simple - you had a car, you paid a fee, the same fee for any car.  Increasingly though, road tax (or Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) to be formal) has been used by government as a 'nudge' strategy, subtly using it to change our motoring behaviour.  This year sees quite a big nudge, with no fewer than 13 grades of VED.  And that ignores the exemption of vehicles over 40 years old from paying anything.  The new bands apply to cars registered since 1st April 2017, and are directly linked to CO2 emissions.  They are:
